post Tropic Thunder is Badass AND a Poncho Update

August 16th, 2008

Filed under: Blogging, Cars, Links — Ian @ 10:35 pm

First of all, can I say, that Tropic Thunder is THE BEST movie I have EVER seen.  EVER.  Period.  It is so badass that words can not explain how much I enjoyed that film.  Every single second fo the movie is absolutely hilarious, and packed with action.  The combination of Ben Stiller, Tom Cruise, Robert Downer Jr, and Jack Black, is absolutely perfect.  These guys just feed off of each other in a symphony of comedic perfection.  Seriously, I have never laughed so hard.  Ever.  Please, go see it.  You will not be disappointed.

I love war movies, and comedy, and the mixture of these two fused together, was just pefect.  I have to say that RDJ playing a black man was absolutely hilarious, even though he was really supposed to be portraying a stingy irish (English? not sure, basing off of accent, which I’m not a good judge), which was just hilarious on so many levels.

Anyway, go see it.  I guarantee that it is money well spent.  In fact, if you don’t enjoy it, I will pay your movie fees back.  Ok, I lied, I won’t pay them back.  But if you are one of the three people that read my blog, I know that you probably enjoy my sense of humor, and in that case, you’ll enjoy this movie. haha

On another note, I found that god damn annoying metallic vibrating noise that has been driving me crazy on my ‘56 pontiac.  I narrowed it down to something in the passenger side exhaust system (thanks to evan, and a lot of help from the guys on the HAMB on this thread I started:  http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=286674)

Anyway, took the poncho down to the muffler shop I had my dual Flow 40’s installed at (Bobs Discount Muffler on Grape Street, downtown), and talked to the owner, an old New Yorker named Bob Napolitano (hes a fuckin BA!), and he narrowed it down to being the heat riser in the passenger side exhaust manifold.  The riser is apparently blown out, and there is a butterfly in the riser that stays closed while the exhaust heats up through the engine, and when warm, the buttefly opens and allows the hot exhuast to run out through the manifold and out through the pipes.  Apparently that butterfly had worn out and was rattling around in the riser in the manifold.  Typical on old cars apparently.  I’m dropping her off at old Bob’s discount muffler on Monday on my way to work, and hes going to fix that and an exhaust leak I have out of my passenger side manifold during the day, and I’ll pick up after work.

God, I love that car!  Turns a lot of heads.  Was out for margaritas all afternoon today with Dani, Cam, and Chessmaster Cass, and got a lot of thumbs ups, and one from a guy cruising a sweet 1959 bel air.

Anyway, I’m heading to bed, we are cruising out to San V tomorrow morning around 5:45 AM (Me, evan, jamie, dani, cam, and Kjo) to get a good morning session in while the water is glassy, then will prob be chillin all afternoon.

Peace out T&Ters.

My buddy Matt at work is obsessed with this song. It’s good, its growing on me, although I’m not sure why.

By some Denver hip hop group called “Flobots”. God damn it, now its stuck in my head. Not to mention that fuckin Rick Astley song “Never Gonna Give You Up” is permantly burned into my neurons, thanks to the irresponsible amount of RickRolling that has been going around. I have pwned just about everyone I know, and it has been hilarious. I even pwned my unwitting intern today. He didn’t even see it coming. BAM!

In other news, check out www.everylogin.com, a site Matt and I have been developing to compete with the popular OpenId login system. But instead of passing your credentials through the host site, ours stores it on a secure database on everylogin.com, therefore anyone can use it on any site, and be assured that the host isn’t grabbing their information when logging in! I think it could possibly be the next big thing in distributed identification across domains. Check it out and let us know what you think? Hopefully some day it could get picked up by Myspace, Facebook, and who knows what else. Hey, we can dream!

Aside from that ish, today is wrapping up to be a pretty good friday. Went to the Gym during lunch, which is awesome because I get out of the damn office for an hour, and then I don’t have to go when I get home, when I have pretty much 0% motivation to go. But around 12 in the afternoon I have 100% motivation to get the fuck out of the office, even to exercise! Plus, there is a 24 Hour Fitness in Horton Plaza, and if anyone knows traffic and parking in downtown San Diego - its a mess. Luckily, there is free motorcycle parking right across the street, and I ride my bike a couple days a week, so it works out perfectly!

Other news… Tomorrow I think we are heading out to San Vicente in the morning for some wakeboard. We delayed taking the boat in and just picked up the prop to put on. The amp for the new speakers is backordered, so we told DBG Concepts to just wait until they had all the stuff we wanted before taking the boat in. After that, there is a ceremony for the installation of the Alumni Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi, which I am a founding member. After that, a bit of a cocktail party, which I’m sure will turn into a complete mess and last pretty late into the night. Hopefully following up on Sunday with some more wakeboarding, and then finishing up the College Funding Solutions website sunday night.

My mom went in for her first round of chemo yesterday, and in for some more today. After this I think its just once a week for the next 17 weeks. She is in good health and spirits, so I’m hoping it continues.

I’m out!

post A Perfect V-day

February 15th, 2008

Filed under: Links, Tonic — Ian @ 9:50 am

First off - Valentines day was perfect.  Like out of a movie perfect.  Like textbook perfect.  I’m proud of myself for pulling it off.  And I wouldn’t have done it for anyone else.  Here is what went down:

-Weds 7:30pm - meet with DGs sister in Mission Valley to give her flowers.  She snuck in to her room thurs morning and left them on her desk while she was asleep so she woke up to an awesome bouquet and a note that said to be at my house @ 6:40, wear a dress, and bring something to sleep in.  Awesome.

Thurs 4:00pm -  Leave work early, head over the Mission Bay Hilton and check in.  Set up the room with flowers on the bed, nice bottle of wine, some candles, my ipod and some speakers.  The room is awesome - they are in the middle of renovating but it looks great.

Thurs 5:00pm - Rush home, change in to a black suit, black shirt and red and black tie.  I look awesome.  I know she will too.  Leave a rose in the passenger seat of my truck for when she gets in.  Keep one other rose with me to give to her when she walks in.  Get kind of nervous.

Thurs 6:45pm - DG shows up, I give her a rose.  I was right, she looks awesome.  Is wearing a red and black dress so we both look awesome together.  She gives me some extremely cool Volcom slippers (which I am stoked to wear tonight, wish I could have worn them to work).  Moto and Evan are still getting ready, she asks where they are going, I say to dinner somewhere, I’m not sure.  We head out.

Thurs 7:10pm - Get to Peohe’s over in Coronado.  The place is awesome.  I tell the hostess I am there for my dinner reservation and she confirms that I have a reservation for 6 people.  I think that DG hears this and that the surprise is spoiled (plus Moto and Evan are late as usual so it wasn’t working out as planned anyway).  We get seated before they get there anyway, and she sees a table for 6 and realizes we have company.  Evan and J show up then Moto and Tiff, and we start ordering drinks.

We had previously made an agreement that none of us would act like ourselves that night.  That we would all be perfect gentlemen and discuss politics and social issues and impress the girls.  No…that lasted about 1 drink before we laughing, boozing, making fools out of ourselves and having a damn good time.  We realized that these girls are with us for that reason - this is who we are.  If we weren’t, then we probably wouldn’t be as interesting as we are to be with.  Plus, it all comes back to the comment that Jamie made a long time ago - anywhere we go, we walk in like we own the fucking place with no regard.  And we did just that. :)

Dinner is awesome.  Great food, great friends, good booze, an awesome Valentines day overall.  We head out, get in my truck, and I head to the Hilton.

Thurs 10:00pm - We get to the hotel, head up to the room, and have a couple glasses of wine.  Put on some music…the perfect end to a perfect night.  She said its the best Valentines day she has ever had -and will ever have!  I agree.

To be honest, I’ve never put that much effort into anything, and to have it work out so flawlessly was just about the most awesome experience I have had.  Makes it that much better that it was all for someone who totally deserves it.

btw.  I think this is funny.  Maybe I’m a pathetic nerd, but I think its funny.  Moto sends me a msg at work that some of our buddies in sales are changing their MSN icons to be the Channel 4 news team from Anchorman.  I have been selected to be Champ Kind - WHAMMY!  Moto is Brick Tamland, Trash Compactor Moseley is Ron Burgandy, Andy is Brian Fantana, and the spot is still open for our opponent, Wes Mantooth.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

post I’m 25 - Now (So) What?

February 7th, 2008

Filed under: Links — Ian @ 9:12 am

Yesterday, Feb. 6th, I turned 25.  I am now officially a quarter of a century older.  What did this change?  Well, I can now rent a car…my insurance rates should go down…I guess that’s about it.  You kind of realize when you get birthday cards and there is nothing in them, that you have hit that point.  It’s not really a birthday anymore, or cause for celebration, but more just another notch in the belt, one more year down and another begun.  Not to sound depressing, because I look forward to getting older and seeing what the next stage of life will bring me - its just interesting to reflect on my mid 20’s and see where I was and where I’m going.  I definitely have more now than I ever had, and its a pretty damn good feeling.

On to other news, Big Bob came down yesterday as he was flying out for Boston this morning.  It was great to see Bobbo Potts, the only person to ever score a 10 on the writing assessment, and a man who is so much of a dirt bag he would divide up loose change in to plastic bags containing exactly $1.87 - the exact price of an

Old English 40 oz. during college.  This man now owns his own home in OC and is a teacher.  God damn how we can all change.  I guess I never thought I would be 25, living in a beautiful home overlooking the ocean with my best friends and own a boat either, but I guess we all can accomplish awesome things.

Hmm…Other interesting news - my friend Laura from Australia booked her tickets and is going to be coming out here in June to visit for 2 weeks.  I’m taking a week off work to show her around, since she has never been to America, and I think we are going to take the boat out to the river for a week and do some serious partying.  Should be an insane time, and hopefully leave her with some good memories of the US!  I haven’t seen her since I stayed with her and her family when I was in Australia at 16!  So its pretty much been 9 years, but we have always kept in touch via email, myspace and facebook, and I’m so stoked were going to have a reunion.

Anyway, hope everyone is having a good week.  Heads up that Supercross is at Qualcomm this weekend!  Tickets are only $10 bucks, we are going to pre party and then jump on the trolley, and then sunday were planning on hitting the dezert to mob on some dunes, so it should turn out to be a pretty awesome, moto-filled weekend.  I’ll have pics of my new ink up tonight.  SeeYuh!

post Almost-Christmas Update

December 5th, 2007

Filed under: Links — Ian @ 9:42 am

Hey everyone, if there is anyone still left reading this since I have pretty much completely abandoned Tech & Tonic lately.  Man, real blogging takes dedication and time, both which, I just do not have.  Regardless, this update can be more for me than for you, just to keep track of what has been going on in my life lately:

568px-Alternate_Ubuntu_logo First of all, I’m back to running Ubuntu 7.1 (Gutsy Gibbon) on my laptop.  Anderson is ragging on me for this because every 6 months or so I throw linux on there, get frustrated, and take it off and go back to windows.  Well I was under the impression that 7.1 was supposed to configure most things right out of the box…which it did not.  I spent most of last night struggling with ndiswrapper trying to get my broadcom wireless card to work.  I finally succeeded, and now just can’t figure out how to get it to activate when I boot up the system.  Also, it seems to take an abnormally long time to boot up, hanging with a black screen for over a minute every time I restart.  Oh, well, I’m not giving up this time!

In other news, we put up our Christmas tree and decorated the house.  I mean, we really Christmased the shit out of this place.  Its impossible to come into our house and not be so fucking jolly that you can’t stop smiling.  Check this 8′ beast out!

CIMG3452 CIMG3453 CIMG3454 We went over to Home Depot last weekend and got a great deal on this bad boy.  We were debating getting a fake tree, but decided on this one because its so much better to have a real tree!  We got the fireplace going too, so its been a pretty good atmosphere around D Street.

In other news, I picked up a sick 42″ High Def 1080p LCD tv on Black Friday.  Yeah, its a Polaroid, but I am extremely impressed by the quality of this TV.  Not to mention the price I got it for can’t be beat!  Wal Mart was basically handing these things out.  It barely fits in my tiny room, but nothing beats playing some Call of Duty online with this big of a screen!

I’m sure anyone who frequents Digg knows about the Virgin America deal, buy one get one free plane tix, and they start flying out of SD In early Feb!  The whole crew is buying tix to New York for a little D Street vacation!  Check this link out, hurry because you have to buy them before the 6th (tomorrow!)

I’m also heading up to Vegas in January for PUNK ROCK BOWLING !  I’ll be meeting up with the entire old Santa Barbara crew - Vaj, Lyle, Deuce, The Rook, Donald, the Hawaiians, for a mess of a weekend involving Punk Rock, Booze, Bowling, and god knows what.  Maybe I’ll end up coming back with a few new tattoos!  Should prove to be awesome, as we haven’t all gotten together for a reunion in quite a while.

Anyway, that should do it for an update.  I’d like to say I will be better about staying current…but who knows.  MERRY CHRISTMAS!
